Jennifer Lawrence stated that she confronted film crew members who were present on set during a nude scene without prior approval. The actress shared the account during a recent appearance on the 'Call Her Daddy' podcast. She described her reaction as coming down hard on the team because the situation violated an established standard of set safety.
Lawrence explained that the incident taught her the value of speaking up. She noted that while flexibility is required in the industry, she now advocates for herself more frequently due to her seniority. She cited director Lynne Ramsay’s request for her to cut her hair and dye it platinum blonde for 'Die My Love' as an example of accepting creative direction. However, she distinguished that creative choice from the presence of unapproved observers.
The confrontation was rooted in a principle of equity for younger performers. Lawrence asked what would happen to an 18-year-old unknown actor who finds unapproved guests on set. She said such a performer would face a difficult choice between risking a reputation for being difficult or allowing uncomfortable viewers to watch. She wanted to ensure the crew understood why the situation was unacceptable.
Last year, Lawrence drew attention for her comments on working without an intimacy coordinator on 'Die My Love.' In that role, she stars opposite Robert Pattinson. She told the 'Las Culturistas' podcast that she felt safe with Pattinson because he is not 'pervy' and is deeply in love with Suki Waterhouse. She said the two often discussed their children and relationships.
Lawrence said she would have preferred an intimacy coordinator if there were any ambiguity about romantic interest. She observed that many male actors take offense if a woman does not want to sleep with them, leading to a form of professional punishment. She stated that Pattinson was not part of that pattern.
The actress said she is not sensitive about nudity and wanted Ramsay to have total artistic freedom. She noted that being pregnant removed much of her vanity anxiety. Before 'No Hard Feelings,' she was dieting and working out. While making 'Die My Love,' she was pregnant and working 15-hour days. She recalled receiving a close-up image of cellulite and asking if it should be touched up. She answered her own question with 'That's an ass.'
Lawrence is currently promoting her latest projects. She has continued to discuss her experiences on set in various podcast interviews. Her comments highlight her approach to professional boundaries and creative collaboration.
