Meta suspended the No Kings Instagram account for four hours on Sunday. This occurred during a peak period for the group's early voting push. The ban locked administrators out of their page while the public was actively engaging with their content.

Andy Stone, a spokesperson for Meta, explained the cause on X. He stated the account was using a Claude AI tool in a manner that triggered automated bot detection. Although the system flagged the error within one hour, additional hurdles prevented immediate reinstatement. Stone acknowledged these extra barriers kept the team locked out.

The No Kings Coalition rejected Meta's initial apology. The group said the response failed to address its ongoing concerns. They requested a meeting with senior leadership rather than a technical expert. Their core demand is assurance that voting content will not be suppressed before or on election day.

State and federal lawmakers joined the push for answers. A coalition of 14 attorneys general asked Meta to explain its actions. The coalition also requested that Meta publicly disclose any communications with the Trump administration regarding the account or the historic early voting event.

Meta executives met with No Kings on October 30. During that meeting, Meta stated it had no plans to change policies that lead to over-enforcement. The independent Oversight Board, which reviews content decisions, shares this concern. It warns such policies could result in the censorship of pro-democracy content during this critical period.
