Brinker Harding and Denise Powell led final campaigning efforts on Sunday in Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District. Election Day is scheduled for Tuesday, leaving one full day of public outreach remaining before voters head to the polls.
Harding, the Republican nominee seeking to replace retiring U.S. Rep. Don Bacon, addressed a group of candidates in Elkhorn. Incumbent Attorney General Mike Hilgers and incumbent Senator Pete Ricketts also spoke at the afternoon gathering. Harding told the audience that the team has two days left to complete their voter outreach. "We’re going to rush through that finish tape. And we’re going to make sure that CD2 stays red," Harding said.
In South Omaha, Democrat Denise Powell focused on door-to-door contact with residents. Her campaign reported that volunteers completed eight canvass events on Sunday. Powell stated that conversations with voters consistently centered on the cost of groceries, gas, housing, and healthcare. "They’re frustrated by what’s going on in the world. They’re struggling," Powell said. She added that many residents recognize the election as a chance to shift the political direction of the state.
Both campaigns aimed to counter voter fatigue caused by frequent advertisements and digital messages. Powell’s team plans to continue knocking on doors until 8 p.m. on Election Day. Her final message to supporters emphasized the need for a specific plan to reach polling places on Tuesday.
