Jack Nicholson is 89 and has effectively vanished from public view. Michael Douglas, 82, confirmed the actor's seclusion on October 31 during a press event in Swansea to promote his memoir, One Helluva Ride. The update comes as Douglas continues a promotional tour that has already generated headlines.
Douglas stated that Nicholson is "well" but has "disappeared." He described seeing the actor at his home, walking around in slippers. "He is fine," Douglas said. "I understand. He is a few years older than me, but I understand." The two men have not worked together since 1975, when Douglas produced and Nicholson starred in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
Nicholson's last theatrical release was How Do You Know in 2010. He co-starred in that film with Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, and Owen Wilson. His most recent major public appearance occurred in February 2025 at the 50th anniversary special for Saturday Night Live. Prior to that event, his daughter Lorraine Nicholson posted a photo of the pair on Instagram in January 2025. She also shared a post on his Instagram Story in April to mark his 89th birthday.
Douglas's current press tour has drawn attention beyond Nicholson. An excerpt from his memoir revealed a secret romantic relationship with Kathleen Turner while filming Romancing the Stone in 1984. Turner responded to the news by calling the attention "a fuss about something 40 years ago." She said she loves Douglas and looks forward to reading the book.
The contrast between the two careers is stark. Douglas remains active in the industry, using his memoir tour to revisit past roles and relationships. Nicholson, a three-time Oscar winner, has stepped back from the spotlight. He continues to see Douglas, but his daily life now centers on his home. The actors' professional paths crossed only once, yet their personal connection persists in Douglas's ongoing commentary on Nicholson's health and habits.
