Warsaw maintains two primary commercial airports, serving both premium and budget carriers across the city limits and surrounding regions. On Tuesday, November 3, both facilities managed simultaneous security incidents involving aircraft arriving from Western Europe.

The first alert originated on a passenger jet flying from London Heathrow to Warsaw-Chopin. Modlin airport reported that the threat was announced to the cabin at 9:54 a.m. The aircraft, identified as a Boeing 737 MAX operating for Polish airline LOT, diverted to the nearby Modlin field. The plane touched down at 10:01 a.m., seven minutes after the initial announcement.

Modlin suspended all operations immediately upon the plane's arrival. Security teams began a full inspection of the aircraft while 181 passengers and crew members waited in the arrivals hall. The airport confirmed that the checks were still ongoing when it announced the resumption of general operations later that day.

A second incident involved an SAS flight arriving from Copenhagen. That aircraft landed at its intended destination, Warsaw-Chopin. A spokesperson for Chopin stated that the airport remained open during the examination of the Copenhagen plane. Ground crews and security personnel processed the aircraft while regular traffic continued at the main terminal.

The two events required coordinated responses at sites separated by distance and function. Chopin is located within the city boundaries, while Modlin sits approximately 36 kilometers away. Modlin primarily serves low-cost carriers, whereas Chopin handles the majority of standard international and domestic traffic in the capital.

The LOT flight carried 181 individuals aboard during the diversion. The airport’s initial notice indicated an evacuation was underway as part of the protocol. By the time operations restarted at Modlin, the specific aircraft remained under review by the relevant security services, even as the gates reopened for other flights.
