Lindsey Carl and Brandon Byrd paid no money for their wedding, a cost that typically runs into the tens of thousands of dollars. The Philadelphia-based couple tied the knot in Lot H on Monday evening as part of a promotional event sponsored by Garage Beer.
Vince Rizzuto, CEO of TrueFan Travel, said his company partnered with the brewery to create the event. He noted that Garage Beer reached out over the summer with the idea for a wedding. The plan included a performance by the Philly Pops, a group that wanted to play at a tailgate. Rizzuto said the two concepts combined naturally.
The couple, who currently reside in Chicago, entered a contest after seeing an advertisement on Instagram. They submitted a 90-second video to be considered for the giveaway. Byrd said the video focused on their love for the Eagles and a pun on their last name, referencing the phrase Go Birds. Carl stated that they learned they had won the contest about two and a half weeks before the event.
The ceremony took place on Monday night ahead of a Monday Night Football game. Carl wore a wedding dress and Eagles-themed cowgirl boots. Byrd wore a green suit, Eagles socks, and a feather pinned to his jacket. Her father walked her down a green aisle to the altar.
NFL players Jason Kelce and Beau Allen attended the event. They walked down the aisle and handed out beers to guests. Former MLB star Shane Victorino also attended to officiate the ceremony. The Philly Pops performed music before, during, and after the vows for the family and friends present.
The event was branded as the Tailgate Wedding of the Century. The couple described themselves as dedicated Eagles fans who maintain a local fan group in Chicago. They watch games at two specific bars in the city on Sundays, Mondays, and Thursdays. Byrd said the pair plans to drink Garage Beer for the rest of their lives.
