Deputies arrested Irene Miller at the airport Friday morning after she landed from Las Vegas. Officers met her as she exited the plane and escorted her through the terminal before placing her in handcuffs. This action concluded a two-day investigation into the supervision of her four children.

The criminal inquiry began on the evening of Oct. 21. One of Miller’s children called 911 to report that a dumbbell had fallen on the head of a 9-year-old brother. Deputies arrived at the family home in Kissimmee shortly after 8:30 p.m. They found children aged 9, 11, 12, and 14 in the residence without any adults present. Fire rescue personnel transported the injured boy to Celebration Hospital. Medical staff treated him and discharged him.

Miller, 50, had departed Florida on Oct. 18 for a work trip to Las Vegas. She told deputies on the phone that she intended to return on Oct. 23. She stated that she had arranged for a babysitter to travel from Tampa each morning to help the children prepare for school. The arrangement did not require the sitter to remain overnight. The children’s father agreed to take the four kids to his home while detectives prepared to intercept Miller’s flight.

Miller was booked into the Orange County Jail on four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm. Sheriff Chris Blackmon commented on the enforcement of the charges. He stated that the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office will not tolerate child neglect. He added that these cases will be investigated and charges will be brought against parents who are not properly supervising or caring for their children.
