Louisville defeated Stanford 52-24 on Saturday in a game that ended the Cardinal’s hopes for a better road record this season.

Lincoln Kienholz accounted for three touchdowns, throwing for 250 yards and two scores while rushing for 62 yards and another touchdown. The dual-threat quarterback also carried the ball 33 yards in the third quarter to set up a one-yard run that gave the home team a lead they did not relinquish. Louisville finished with 545 total offensive yards, splitting the effort between 249 in the air and 296 on the ground.

Stanford’s struggles away from home continued. The Cardinal dropped their 15th consecutive road game, extending the longest active losing streak in the FBS. The team had been outscored 150-17 in its previous three road games and matched that deficit in the first half against Louisville. Stanford led twice in the second quarter and tied the score at 24 in the third, but the hosts scored 28 unanswered points to close the game.

Coach Brian Brohm credited the defense for shifting the momentum. He noted that a timely interception allowed the team to build a two-score lead. Brohm said the team played much better in the second half. He added that he told his players at halftime not to focus on being the favorite. He stated, “We think every conference game is going to be tough. (If) we don’t play well, we’re not going to win.”

Tre Richardson caught 10 passes for 140 yards, serving as the primary target for Kienholz. Isaac Brown led the rushing attack with 139 yards and scored on a 75-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. The Cardinals were without leading wide receiver Lawayne McCoy, who is out for an extended period due to a knee injury. McCoy had caught 25 passes for 513 yards and four touchdowns in the team’s first seven games.

Stanford quarterback Davis Warren threw for 270 yards and three touchdowns. He connected with Aiden Black on a 75-yard pass in the second quarter. Despite the loss, Stanford surpassed its previous road scoring total of 17 points in a single game.

Louisville is fourth in the nation in average yards per carry, a mark of 5.9. The team improved that average to nine yards per carry on Saturday. Brohm improved to 5-1 in games played immediately following a bye week.

Louisville travels to Georgia Tech next Saturday. Stanford hosts Virginia Tech on Nov. 14.
