The Johnsons identified a specific market gap in Atascocita before opening Brunch & Bloom in December 2025. Kwan Johnson, a former U.S. Army regional operations manager, stated that the couple felt a need for a product they wanted to deliver to the community. "There was a gap so we just wanted to fill that void," Johnson said.
The couple has lived in the area for nearly 20 years. Kia Johnson, a nurse practitioner, noted that their three children attend local schools. She described the decision to open the restaurant as a way to give back to the community where they have raised their family.
The menu, curated with Executive Chef James Watford, offers breakfast, brunch, and lunch items. Dishes include deep-fried smoked gouda grits, breakfast fried rice, and a BBLT sandwich featuring beef bacon. The restaurant also provides an expanding list of vegan options and accommodations for gluten sensitivities.
Kwan Johnson said the goal was to create an elevated brunch experience for residents of Humble. "You didn't have to go to Midtown, Downtown or The Woodlands," he said. The menu reflects the couple's personal tastes and travel experiences.
The interior design includes specific features for inclusivity. The walls are painted in a shade of blue associated with autism awareness. A designated section of the restaurant features quieter music to accommodate guests who may be overstimulated.
"When families come in here with kids that require special attention and might be overstimulated, we try to sit them on that side of the restaurant," Kwan Johnson said. He added that this allows the whole family to enjoy the space without worrying about disruptions.
The restaurant partners with Humble ISD’s culinary program and donates meals to local nonprofits. It also hosts private events. Kia Johnson said the community support since opening has been overwhelming. The couple plans to open additional locations, including one in their hometown of Baltimore.
