Philadelphia Eagles fans have endured a rough start to the 2026 season, with the team falling to a 2-5 record after five consecutive losses. During this stretch, the Eagles have been outgained by more than 800 yards. With the trade deadline approaching in two weeks, speculation has grown that the franchise will move from buyer to seller mode.

The Eagles currently hold a salary cap burden that complicates short-term moves. Several players on the roster carry financial weight that makes them unattractive to buyers looking for immediate help. Additionally, many of the players who might be candidates for a trade are underperforming this season. This combination of high costs and low production means other teams are unlikely to meet the price Philadelphia would demand.

Jimmy Kempski of PhillyVoice analyzed the roster to identify players who are either untouchable or untradeable. He categorized these players into groups based on their value, age, and financial situation. The goal is to determine who stays on the team regardless of the current losing streak.

Wide receiver DeVonta Smith is considered a core piece despite injury struggles this year. Kempski notes that Smith is a legitimate number one receiver with a winning mindset. Left tackle Jordan Mailata is another player the organization is holding onto. He remains a high-performer and serves as a developmental priority for the front office.

Cornerback Quinyon Mitchell is viewed as the best player on the defense. Safety Cooper DeJean has had a difficult season due to injuries and the need to play multiple positions, but his talent remains intact. Edge rusher Jalyx Hunt was expected to break out this year, but the organization still considers him a core component of the team.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts is sidelined with blood clots in his lungs, effectively ending his season. A trade is possible in the future, particularly if the coaching staff changes, but not before the offseason. Right tackle Lane Johnson has announced his retirement but remains on the 53-man roster. While a trade is theoretically possible, it is not currently being discussed.

The Eagles are expected to focus on younger players who have not yet reached their prime. These players offer long-term value rather than immediate playoff help. Kempski suggests that a realistic trade package would involve two or three players, not a full roster overhaul.
