Paris Saint-Germain have conceded 5.75 expected goals in their last two league matches against Barcelona and Real Madrid. Despite that defensive output, the club holds the number one spot in ESPN's latest global power ranking for 2026-10-30. The French champions have won the Champions League two consecutive seasons. They recently defeated Manchester City and Barcelona, 4-2, in back-to-back league-phase games. The ranking prioritizes on-field performance over recent administrative news. It places PSG above Arsenal and Bayern Munich, who tied in their most recent encounter.

The list ranks the top 20 clubs based on a subjective assessment of who would win more often in 100 neutral-field games. Each entry includes domestic league points, adjusted goal differential, and the average Opta power rating of league opponents. Arsenal sits third, despite a hamstring injury to Bukayo Saka that may keep him out for more than a month. The Premier League side has conceded five goals across eight matches. Their average league opponent is ranked 20th in Opta's ratings, a figure that reflects the depth of the English competition.

Manchester City occupies the sixth position. The club was found guilty of 114 charges just before the ranking was published. On the pitch, they are conceding nearly 1.3 expected goals and over 10 shots per game. Those figures mark the highest defensive rates they have allowed in the past decade. Midfielders Enzo Fernandez and Rayan Cherki are not providing the defensive cover previously expected from that line. The team's struggle is further highlighted by their 3-0 loss to Liverpool, which was affected by a second-half red card for Ryan Gravenberch.

Barcelona is ranked fourth, though their defensive personnel is noted as weaker than the three clubs ahead of them. Under manager Hansi Flick, the team allows more goals than other elite sides due to a high-pressing style. Real Madrid holds the fifth place. Manager Jose Mourinho has the team controlling slightly more than half of final-third possession in LaLiga. That is their lowest mark on record, a statistic comparable only to the 2008-09 season. Inter Milan is eighth, described as the most entertaining team in Europe, though they lost at home to Club Brugge in the Champions League.

The bottom half of the top 20 includes Chelsea, who have a negative adjusted goal differential of minus 0.02 through eight games. Manager Xabi Alonso's side has yet to secure a dominant win without strong finishing. Bournemouth is 13th, having beaten AC Milan and Manchester United by a combined score of 6-0. Juventus is 14th, having allowed 4.35 expected goals in eight matches. The best defensive mark among Europe's Big Five leagues belongs to Arsenal, who have allowed 6.19 expected goals. The list ends with Aston Villa at 16th, who took one point in their first four matches before recent results improved.
