Elon Musk has injected more than $76 million into his personal political committee, America PAC, during the first fortnight of October to bolster Republican candidates in the closing days of the midterm elections. According to a pre-election report filed with the Federal Election Commission on Thursday evening, this substantial infusion of personal funds marks the most significant financial push of the cycle for the billionaire’s campaign arm.

The committee deployed nearly $43 million in expenditure over that two-week period, leaving it with a cash balance of approximately $47 million as it enters the final phase of the election. The financial focus has been overwhelmingly concentrated on the Senate race in Texas, which accounted for $15.2 million of the recent spending. This figure represents a doubling of the amount the PAC invested in that state throughout the summer months. Of this Texas allocation, $12.4 million was directed toward attacks on Democratic nominee James Talarico, while $2.8 million was used to promote his Republican opponent, Ken Paxton.

Subsequent daily filings indicate an additional $9.1 million in expenditures against Talarico, bringing the total spending against him this cycle to nearly $28 million. This amount constitutes roughly 40 percent of all funds the PAC has spent on candidates. Furthermore, the committee has shifted its media strategy, allocating $11.4 million to digital advertising in the same two-week window, a figure nearly equal to its combined spending on mail and texting.

Since July, America PAC has received more than $165 million from Musk, contributing to a total of over $445 million he has provided to Republican political groups this election cycle. This accumulation has established him as the largest known individual donor for the midterms. While the PAC declined to issue a comment, Musk has maintained an active presence on social media, using his platform on X to criticize Talarico. He recently labeled the candidate a "creep" and alleged, without providing evidence, that Talarico would "vote to take away your kids and transition them." He also amplified an earlier false claim that Talarico had been treated at a mental health facility.

In response to Musk’s commentary, Talarico stated on Wednesday: "There is something deeply wrong with a political system that allows one trillionaire to buy his own personal US Senator." The race in Texas remains statistically competitive, with an Emerson College poll of 1,000 likely voters conducted from October 17 to 19 showing Talarico at 48 percent and Paxton at 46 percent, a difference within the poll’s three-point margin of error.

The financial commitment carries significant implications beyond the state of Texas. Should Democrats secure control of the House, incoming committee leaders have indicated they intend to investigate Musk’s involvement in the Department of Government Efficiency, as well as his companies’ federal contracts. California Democrat Zoe Lofgren has characterized the number of conflicts of interest as "astounding." Additionally, a group of Silicon Valley Democrats has targeted SpaceX’s Starshield service in Ukraine, with Representatives Sam Liccardo, Jimmy Panetta, and Ro Khanna pledging in a letter to the White House that the next Congress would closely scrutinize federal funding awarded to Musk’s businesses.

The convergence of these political and financial forces suggests that the outcome of the midterms will directly impact the regulatory environment surrounding Musk’s extensive corporate holdings.
