The gap between what Wall Street expected from SpaceX and what the company actually delivered has become a source of intense market recalibration. After the bell rang on October 20, the space and technology giant released third-quarter financial results that shattered consensus forecasts, forcing a rapid and widespread revision of price targets by major financial institutions. The stock, which had closed at $147.79 the previous day, saw a sharp spike of approximately 8 percent in early premarket trading on October 21 as investors digested the new data and the resulting upward adjustments from analysts.

The primary driver of this enthusiasm was a revenue figure of $14.6 billion, marking a 161 percent year-over-year increase. This performance comfortably exceeded the consensus estimate, which hovered near $12.7 billion. Furthermore, the company swung from a loss in the prior year to a net profit of $4.4 billion, with adjusted EBITDA reaching $8.8 billion. This shift to profitability, combined with the sheer scale of revenue growth, has convinced many in the market that the company's long-term earnings power is stronger than previously modeled.

A significant portion of this growth is attributable to the company’s Super Intelligence division, which now serves as the largest revenue contributor. This AI-focused segment generated roughly $7.6 billion, representing a nearly 830 percent year-over-year increase. While the Connectivity segment, driven by Starlink, delivered $5.2 billion and grew its consumer base to 13.6 million subscribers, the explosive expansion in AI compute capabilities has emerged as the new primary engine for value creation, outpacing the established satellite business in terms of growth rate and market attention.

Management’s forward-looking guidance further fueled the bullish sentiment. CEO Elon Musk and CFO Bret Johnsen outlined first-quarter 2027 revenue projections of $33 billion to $37 billion, a figure far above the approximately $22 billion that analysts had previously modeled. To support this, the company plans to spend between $35 billion and $40 billion on capital expenditures in the fourth quarter, focusing heavily on AI compute infrastructure at sites in Memphis and Southaven. This aggressive spending signals a commitment to scaling AI capacity rapidly, with targets of 2.5 to 3 gigawatts of nameplate capacity by year-end and pathways to 13 gigawatts or more by the end of 2027.

This financial performance and strategic outlook triggered a wave of price target increases across the sector. JPMorgan more than doubled its target to $500 from $240, while Cantor Fitzgerald raised its to $345 from $246. Other notable adjustments include Barclays moving to $300, Citi to $240, and UBS to $230. Firms such as Wells Fargo and Clear Street also adjusted their targets higher to $274 and $248, respectively. Analysts broadly cited the strong quarterly print, accelerating AI expansion, Starlink progress, and recent Starship milestones, including orbital success and V3 satellite deployment, as the key drivers for these higher valuations.

Beyond the financials, the earnings call highlighted several strategic developments that add complexity to the company's outlook. Management discussed the rapid adoption of Grok Bot, plans for spectrum expansion, and the formation of special committees to explore a possible combination with Tesla. While these initiatives suggest a broader ecosystem play, the immediate market reaction has been dominated by the tangible growth in AI compute and the significant beat in quarterly revenue. The consensus now reflects greater conviction in SpaceX’s trajectory across launch, connectivity, and its burgeoning Super Intelligence business, even as the heavy capital expenditure remains a focal point for future cash flow analysis.
