The Baltimore Ravens dropped a 35-13 decision to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, surrendering a 13-0 halftime advantage to fall below the .500 mark at 4-3. The team gave up 35 consecutive points in the second half, extending their AFC North losing streak to two games.
Tyler Huntley started for the third consecutive game in place of Lamar Jackson. Before the break, Huntley threw for 215 yards, including a 48-yard touchdown pass to Zay Flowers. The Ravens controlled the clock for 22 minutes and 20 seconds of the first 30 minutes but managed only 13 points. They went 0-for-3 in the red zone and 0-for-2 on fourth-down conversions, according to the Ravens Wire.
Cincinnati responded with five straight scoring possessions after intermission. Joe Burrow connected with Mike Gesicki and Tee Higgins for touchdowns. The Bengals took the lead at 14-13 on Higgins' 13-yard reception. Samaje Perine scored on a run following a Ravens turnover on downs, and Ja'Marr Chase added a 2-yard touchdown. Burrow completed a 16-yard pass to Drew Sample after an interception by Huntley, according to NBC Sports' ProFootballTalk.
First-year head coach Jesse Minter acknowledged the team's volatility in a postgame news conference. He stated, 'We're riding the wave when it's good, and we're riding the wave when it's bad.' Minter noted that the team is too dependent on momentum, a factor that contributed to the collapse when Cincinnati scored early in the second half.
Lamar Jackson, who has missed the last three games with an ankle injury sustained against Tennessee on Oct. 4, is listed as questionable for Sunday's game in Buffalo. He practiced on a limited basis last week but was declared inactive for the Bengals contest. Minter said the team will determine Jackson's status over the next few days. Jackson is in the fourth year of a five-year, $260 million contract that extends through 2027.
Rookie right guard Vega Ioane left the game with a knee injury and was ruled out. Emery Jones Jr. entered the lineup to replace him. Linebacker Roquan Smith exited early in the fourth quarter with a knee issue but returned to the field. The Ravens are also without edge rusher Tavius Robinson for the remainder of the season.
Baltimore faces a demanding stretch ahead, traveling to Buffalo before hosting Jacksonville on Thursday, Nov. 5. The team's next bye is scheduled for Dec. 6. They will meet the Bengals again on New Year's Eve and play Pittsburgh on Dec. 20 and in Week 18. The AP reported the Ravens have been outscored by 70 points after halftime this season.
The next home game against Jacksonville serves as a test for the city's postgame traffic pilot on Hanover Street. Kickoff is set for 8:15 p.m. on a work night, requiring fans to plan for arrival during the evening commute.
